This week, once again the story has been wind, wind, and a little more wind. The water clarity is about average for East Galveston Bay west of the Stingaree and clarity declines the further east you venture past Big Pasture Bayou. The majority of our success this week has been back in the marsh and back lake areas as we searched for some protection from the strong winds.

Water clarity was stirred up more than usual after the fronts we had this past week, but the fish did not seem to mind. We had quite a bit of North wind this week, but still fishing shell structure in 2 to 4 feet of water, and most of our springtime places produced consistent trout action.

The past few days, we have once again fished where we can find some protection from the wind, as well as find some water that is not totally blown out. We have thrown ¼ oz jig heads with Wac Attack straight tails in Rollover Moon, Deadly Dudley Rat Tails, Walking Top Waters, as well as imitation Shrimp lures, under a 1’-2’ leader with a Fish Smack Popping Cork.

As in previous weeks, if you see active bait the fish are close by. Anchor or PowerPole down and fan cast the entire area, as this week we were able to catch multiple limits of trout from just a couple of small areas. If you get into an area and do not see bait activity, make a few casts, and move on, as our experience has been, if you find good amounts of bait the fish are close by.

Surface water temperature is 76 degrees. Water clarity is good for the majority of East Galveston Bay, especially on the South shoreline, with stained water East of Marsh point. This week we fished shell beds in the 2'-3’ depth range and found good numbers of Trout and a few reds and flounder.

The Trout this week have been more challenging for us, catching a nice fish or two and having to move to do the same. SpringTime spots out on the flats over shell beds have performed the best for our anglers.
